Our pet portraits are artfully made to capture the essence of your pet. They are created using a technique called raw edge appliqué. These portraits may be made as a wall hanging, a pillow or a quilt.
Here are answers to some frequently asked questions that may help you decide if our portraits are right for you:
Raw edge appliqué is a technique that uses layers of fabric in shapes to create an image, in this case, a pet portrait. Once the image is created, these layers are adhered together and stitched around the perimeter to stop the edges from excessively fraying.
To produce a pet portrait, I only require a good clear photo of your pet, although the more photos, the better. I also require preferred colour choices for the background of your portrait. Depending on the project, I may require more information, but will be in touch!
I typically require 3-4 weeks to create a pet portrait, depending on my work load. This time may be extended, depending on the scope of the project, or time of year (the holiday season is very busy for me). If a project is required in a short turn-around time, I may be able to accomodate for a premium.
The less aggressive you are with your pet portrait, the better. A simple lint roller will remove any dust and dirt from the portrait, without causing harm. If you get a spot or stain, I recommend you spot clean only. Do not put your pet portrait in the washing machine! This will cause excessive fraying to the appliqué. For this reason, it is recommended that any pet portrait made into a quilt be lightly used, and not used as an every day quilt.
